Before beginning any course of treatment with me, we always start with a consultation. This isn’t a formality — it’s one of the most important parts of the process, and understanding what it involves helps you prepare and get the most from it.
What a Consultation Covers
A holistic health consultation is a conversation — but a structured one, designed to give me the complete picture I need to work effectively. We’ll cover:
Your current health concerns — what’s brought you in, how long it’s been present, what makes it better or worse, and what you’ve tried so far.
Your health history — past conditions, diagnoses, surgeries, medications, and anything significant that has affected your health over the years. Things that happened a long time ago are often still relevant.
Your lifestyle — sleep quality, stress levels, exercise, diet, and the general context of your life. These aren’t boxes to tick; they’re important pieces of the whole picture.
Your goals — what you’re hoping to achieve and what “better” looks like for you. This shapes the direction of treatment more than anything else.
Why I Ask About More Than the Presenting Symptom
Holistic therapy is based on the understanding that symptoms don’t exist in isolation — they’re part of a whole-person picture. The back pain that’s connected to stress at work. The hormonal disruption that started after a significant life event. The digestive problem that tracks with anxiety. Understanding the pattern beneath the symptom allows me to address the root rather than just managing the surface expression.
This is why clients sometimes tell me that I asked about things they didn’t expect — and why those “unexpected” questions often lead to the most significant insights about what’s actually driving their health challenges.
What Happens After the Consultation
Depending on what emerges, I’ll recommend either a specific therapy or a combination approach, and we’ll discuss how many sessions might be appropriate to start with. There’s no obligation to commit to anything before you’ve experienced the treatment for yourself.
For some clients, particularly those with complex or long-standing conditions, I might suggest starting with the therapy most relevant to the most pressing concern, and then broadening the approach over subsequent sessions as we understand the picture better.
I’m based in Wilby, near Wellingborough, and I see clients from across Northamptonshire. The consultation is included within your first session — there’s no separate charge for it.
For All Therapies
Whether you’re coming for reflexology, Reiki, Emotion Code, craniosacral therapy, KORE Therapy, abdominal massage, or cupping, we always start with a consultation. The information I gather shapes the entire session.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the consultation take? For a first appointment, I allow time within the session for a thorough consultation — typically fifteen to twenty minutes before treatment begins. Subsequent sessions begin with a shorter check-in.
Is the consultation confidential? Yes — everything discussed in sessions is confidential and held in accordance with data protection requirements.
What should I bring to my first appointment? Just yourself. A list of any medications you’re taking is helpful if you’re on multiple medications. Beyond that, arrive with an open mind and a willingness to share the full picture.
