Traditional Chinese Cupping Therapy in Northampton
Cupping is one of the oldest therapeutic practices in the world — used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years to move stagnant energy, release deep muscle tension, and support the body’s natural healing processes.
Where massage pushes into tissue, cupping lifts it. The gentle suction of the cups draws blood and energy to the surface, releasing tension that sits too deep for manual pressure to reach. The result is often a profound sense of release — physical and, for many clients, emotional too.

What does cupping therapy help with?
Cupping is particularly effective for tension that has built up over time — the kind that doesn’t shift with conventional massage alone. It is commonly used for:
- Back, neck, and shoulder pain
- Deep muscle tension and tightness
- Poor circulation and sluggish lymphatic drainage
- Respiratory congestion and tightness in the chest
- Stress and nervous system overload
- Headaches and migraines related to tension
- General fatigue and depletion
What happens in a session?
Tessa uses traditional glass or silicone cups placed on the skin to create gentle suction. Cups may be left in place (static cupping) or moved across the skin (sliding cupping) depending on what your body needs. Oil is used to allow smooth movement and protect the skin.
Sessions are deeply relaxing. Most clients experience significant relief from tension during the treatment itself, with the full benefits continuing to develop over the 24–48 hours that follow.
You may notice temporary circular marks on the skin after treatment — this is normal and not bruising. The marks are caused by old, stagnant blood being drawn to the surface and typically fade within a few days.
Sessions last 60 minutes.

Frequently asked questions
Does cupping therapy actually work?
Cupping has been used for thousands of years and many clients report significant relief from muscle tension, pain, and stress after treatment. It works by increasing blood flow and lymphatic drainage to the treated area, helping the body clear stagnation and release deep-held tension.
Does cupping leave marks?
Cupping can leave temporary circular marks on the skin, particularly in areas with high levels of stagnation. These are not bruises — they are caused by old, stagnant blood being drawn to the surface and typically fade within a few days. The darker the mark, the more stagnation was present in that area.
Is cupping therapy painful?
Cupping should not be painful. Most clients describe a sensation of deep pressure or pulling that is unusual but comfortable. If you find any cup placement uncomfortable, Tessa will adjust immediately.
How often should you have cupping therapy?
For acute tension or pain, weekly sessions for 3–4 weeks is a common starting point. For general maintenance and wellbeing, monthly sessions are popular. Tessa will advise based on what she finds in your first session.
Cupping works well alongside other therapies. If you are carrying deep stress or emotional tension, Emotion Code or K.O.R.E Therapy may complement your cupping sessions well.
